gigant - Trenkamp & Gehle GmbH: Economic and sustainable concepts in the field of waste management

gigant - Trenkamp & Gehle GmbH is a medium-sized family business which has been operating successfully on the commercial vehicle market for over 60 years. Its diverse product range extends from light axles to heavy-duty and flatbed trailer axles.

The initial situation

gigant - Trenkamp & Gehle GmbH had been looking for a service provider to develop a sustainable and economical material flow concept for their Dinklage site. In addition, the internal logistics processes needed to be integrated into the new material flow concept.

Solution

Firstly, all material flows and environmentally relevant processes were recorded, analysed and documented in a material flow balance. Using this detailed material flow balance, the current processes were examined and alternative methods were developed. A focal point of the concept was to consider metal scrap and non-ferrous metals from an economic point of view. Overall, it was possible to increase internal recycling rates, reduce disposal costs and significantly increase revenues from recyclables. In addition, we developed a new internal logistics concept in the field of waste disposal together with the project managers of gigant - Trenkamp & Gehle GmbH. In addition to setting up new, internal collection structures, the concept includes a new colour coding system to label containers for waste collection. Sustainable project success is guaranteed due to the overall consideration of the material flow project.
